What we learned from J8ded
I’ve always been a big fan of Flash and considered myself sudo-proficient in designing and developing Flash based sites, but never got the chance to really stretch my knowledge…until now. When I took on the J8ded project, I thought I was definitely in for a challenge that would test my understanding of the program, while allowing me to pick up a few new tricks along the way. Well I was wrong.. I picked up WAY more than a few new tricks, like a whole new language called Actionscript 3.0. I’ll make this short… “The possibilities are endless”.
It’s almost surreal to even say.. err think.. err type… Why you ask? Never… have I ever… even once… thought I’d ever be anything even resembling a programmer. In the real world (well our quasi-real world anyway), it’s almost against the laws of physics for a graphic designer to know how to program, and yes, for a programmer to be a good designer. By doing the homework (tutorials) and actually disconnecting yourself from the standard visual journey of your audience’s eye.. it shall be done! Now I think I can say this because I’ve done it. Actionscript 3.0 is the first programming language that, I think, actually makes sense. I could go on for days about why but that would turn this entry, and possibly this entire blog, into a real bore.
